Moose goes to school

10 Jan 2011
Moose made a great New Year's resolution. He is going to start school. He did some research and found out that the Finnish school system has been ranked as the one with the best results in the whole world.
"Great! I'm going to be in Finland in January" said Moose. "I will go and check out the schools there."

Moose visited Taitti's aunt's family and spoke with  the experts (Taitti's cousins - 7, 10 and 11 year's old) to get some first hand information on where these great schools are located. Moose found out that school in Finland starts again on 10th January. "Hooray! I can join you then!"

On the mornign of 10th Jnauary Moose got up really (maybe even at 8am), got dressed, polished his horns and checked that his outfit is ready for school. Then he hopped in Taitti's wintercoat pocket to get a lift to school.

"Quick, quick! I don't want to be late on my first day!"
Moose then realised he does not have a school bag! Oh no, what to do now? Luckily first grader Lotta said Moose can borrow her bag. Then Moose set off to school together with Lotta.

"This bag is really nice but maybe it's just a little bit too big for me. I need to buy my own school bag after my first day at school."

Moose and Lotta, both ready for school.
Moose was looking forward to happily skipping along the streets to school - but then realised the weather had turned warm and all the streets were full of nasty, sloshy, melting snow and big puddles of water.
"Eeewwww.... I'll stay in the pocket of this coat" says Moose. "I might peek out if there is anything interesting on the road but otherwise I'll just stay in here. This weather is disgusting! I want to go back to Singapore - or I would go back if the schools were as good as in Finland. Now I'm stuck with the Cold Country."

After a short walk Moose arrived at the Munkkiniemi primary school. There was already a group of children playing at the school grounds.

Moose looked around on the  school yard and noticed all the children playing.
"Oh no!" cried Moose. "So many so big people! I feel like a midget now among all of these giant, Finnish children. Help!"

Moose then decided to do a 180 degree turn and run straight back home. School can wait for another day.
"I'm street smart enough. I don't need school."
